Diagnosis

Hides the diagnosis, imaging findings, outcome, take-home points and correlation photos so you can read the images blind.

Food bloat (gastric dilatation no volvulus) and incidental urinary bladder calculi (cystoliths)

Confirmed

Imaging findings

The stomach is markedly distended with heterogeneous soft tissue opacity content, likely digested food material. Incidental finding of urinary bladder calculi.

What happened with the patient

Given IV methadone, maropitant, and fluid bolus. Went home to continue recovering.

Key take-home points

Look for the position of the pyloric antrum to help you determine whether a patient has a gastric dilation AND volvulus, versus NO volvulus.
