The patient presented with a colonic torsion, which was initially identified via radiographs and subsequently confirmed with a CT scan. Surgical intervention was performed, revealing massive dilation and partial twisting of the descending colon. Following repositioning of the colon and colopexy, the patient recovered without complications.
When in doubt, and IF the patient is clinically stable, multi-modal imaging such as CT can be helpful to increase diagnostic confidence when radiographic findings are abnormal. It does introduce a delay in time to surgery, so make sure to take that into account!
