Imaging findings
- The patient presented with a colonic torsion, which was initially identified via radiographs and subsequently confirmed with a CT scan. Surgical intervention was performed, revealing massive dilation and partial twisting of the descending colon. Following repositioning of the colon and colopexy, the patient recovered without complications.
- When in doubt, and IF the patient is clinically stable, multi-modal imaging such as CT can be helpful to increase diagnostic confidence when radiographic findings are abnormal. It does introduce a delay in time to surgery, so make sure to take that into account!
